How to Build a BeMS Control Panel | Cura Energy

A glimpse into the process behind our BeMS Solutions.

As a specialist contractor, we have 12 years of experience in building, installing and commissioning Building Energy Management System (BeMS) control panels. Our process involves several steps and considerations which begin way before the control panel enclosure has even been ordered, so in this article, our Senior BMS Commissioning Engineer, Josh Clare will take you through our process and give you a better understanding of our BeMS service…

How to Build a BeMS Control Panel

A BeMS control panel is designed to monitor and control various building systems such as HVAC, lighting, security, and more. Here's a general outline of the process we apply at Cura Energy:

1. Requirements Gathering.

Understanding the specific requirements of the building and its systems helps us to identify the functionalities that the BeMS control panel will need when we build it. A clear understanding of the Client’s Specification is the key to properly understanding requirements - and ensuring a successful BeMS control panel build.

2. System Design.

A system design plan puts the project into motion. Our system design plans are always detailed. They outline the layout, components, wiring diagrams, and connections within the BeMS control panel. We will always be sure to consider factors such as safety, ease of maintenance, and scalability during this process.

3. Component Selection.

Component selection is crucial. With so many different options available on the market, careful consideration must be taken to ensure that each BeMS control panel component is the right fit for the Client’s individual specification. Components must also be reliable and compatible with each other.

4. Enclosure Selection.

Once the components have been selected, an enclosure must be sourced and manufactured to house them all. Maximising on use of space is always a strong consideration for us at this stage as we are committed to reducing wasted materials when building our BeMS control panels. The enclosure chosen should provide protection against environmental factors such as dust, moisture, and temperature variations.

5. Wiring and Assembly.

When assembling our BeMS control panel, we lay out and fix the components within the enclosure according to the design plan and then use the wiring diagrams to wire the components together, taking care to ensure proper connections and labelling. We always follow industry standards and best practices for both wiring and assembly to ensure safety and functionality for our Clients.
